Andries, thanks for staying around on the forum despite being given a hard time, sometimes.  I think its useful to see things from the perspective of someone who has had a similar experience but wasn't directly affected by Rawat.

I have a question which maybe your more objective perspective might shed light on.  Why, do you think, was DLM/Elan Vital so successful in the mid 70s?  I mean relative to other similar movements or cults, such as SSB. 

Was it just the luck of being in the right place at the right time; or was it the the meditation techniques were taught for free, or the Hinduism for Dummies philosophy, or what?

Also, as a cult or movement or whatever, how were the SSB people and their organisation different from DLM/EV?
