What universe have you been living in? Rajneesh and his followers who abandoned family and friends and moved to Pune and then Oregon and tried to poison the local community and then imploded very publicly in the early 80's makes Elan Vital look positively harmless.
On the face of it, Rajneesh's cult wasn't any more threatening than Rawat's. Yes, they were responsible for the first act of biological terrorism on American soil but that was an apparent one-off just like Fakiranand's attempt to kill Pat Halley or even the devotee who shot up the girls in the Florida ashram. Rawat was in fact a much more ominous character as he preached apocalyptic doom if the world failed to fall at his feet. I don't think Rajneesh ever went there, did he? As for abandoning family and friends, tell me about it!
