Some of these lasted because there was a cult business there, and the cult sent premies there to run the business (usually a Rainbow Grocery).  This would be true for Buffalo (Divine Sales or Rainbow?) and  Kansas City for example.

But there seemed to always be (from my recollection) ashrams in:

Boston, New York, Providence, Hartford, New Haven, East Orange (NJ), Buffalo, Philadelphia, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Miami, Gainesville, Detroit, Chicago, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Kansas City, Houston, Denver, Phoenix, LA, San Diego, San Francisco, Portland and Seattle.

Also, Boulder was one of the cities where there was an ashram early on, but it closed in the early 70s.  Maybe it was because all the ashramites moved down the road to the mega-ashrams in Denver.

Do you guys recall the same?  Then of course, who cares?
