I couldn't locate it.  It's about the best one in which Prem clearly claims the mantle of "incarnation of God."

The greatest problem all around the world today, whether in America, Japan, China, Russia, India or anywhere else in the world, is that people are not in peace.  People want peace. Today, if two people fight, the government is supposed to settle them down.  But when governments fight, who is going to settle them down?  The only one who can settle the governments down is the Perfect Master, the incarnation of God Himself, who comes to Earth to save mankind.

Tokyo, Japan, October 3, 1972 (And it is Divine, July 1973)

"The greatest problem all around the world today, whether in America, Japan, China, Russia, India or anywhere else in the world, is that people are not in peace.  People want peace"

Start with the assumptions…

I read this quote today (and I remember it from when I was going to Satsang at the time).   I remember the frame of reference I was in at the time.  An immature 17 year old, unformed, and a bit hurt by life.  This was the sirens song…….all anyone needs is peace…..everyone wants peace…peace will solve all our problems…..peace will protect you….peace will make you strong……if you have peace you need nothing else……peace is in your breath……..peace is in me……..give your life to me….I will give you peace…….no need to feel anguish……or fear or pain……no need to feel at all…..

How incredibly hypnotic.  How seductive.  How immature.

Here are many things I want:

Laughter

Sex

Belonging

A beer

Accomplishment

Transforming conflict

Catharsis

Learning

To understand

Drive a boat really fast

Safety

The love of my friends

To feel like I have enough to be generous

Quietness

Mystery

A life of rich possibilities

To not always understand……and of course some peace…the list goes on

Here is the translation as I understand it today:

You don’t have to feel…….no need to strive……..living is too hard……….give up……I’ll make it OK……..you don’t have to dream……..surrender the reins of your life to me and I will grant you oblivion……a grey twilight where those live who are too afraid to be.

OF COURSE WE NEED MORE THAN PEACE, YOU SICK CON MAN, YOU MIND NUMBING SNAKEOIL SALESMAN, I think you now know exactly what you are doing.  What is the penalty in your universe for those who assist in soul murder even with the cooperation of the victim?

All It takes is to question the premise and the lure falls apart.  I think it also explains why younger people from painfull families are the targets for cults:  it is a message they want to hear, a sugar-coated oblivion.

I hope one person who is introduced to Maharajis' (Prem RAWAT) new message reads this and questions the premise.  From what I can tell it hasn't really changed, just gotten updated and more subtle (which is more eveidence to me that he understands exactly what he is doing).

I guess this has just turned into a rant....(oh well).

You don't even have to worry about spending your money.... I'll spend that for you..... no need,.... even,... to enjoy your self, .... I 'll enjoy that for you too,... for a fee, of course... The rest of the time, sit back and enjoy watching me enjoy myself, spending your money, on DVD's..... It works.... previous gurus told me.... well one...

"a grey twilight where those live
who are too afraid to be."

Thanks, Stephen, for this excellent post, I'm sure I speak for all when I say we all look forward to them with relish.

(Is it bad form to respond to your own posts?)

After I re-read my post I caught the phrase “sugar-coated oblivion”.  That got me to thinking about Hansel and Gretel.  OK, so I am out in the woods, turned out into the forest by an evil step mother (in some versions, a poor father in others, both in cahoots in still others).   After trying to get home couple of times, I am confronted with a huge house (safety, nourishment) that is incredibly attractive and made of gingerbread.  I break off a piece, tastes great (premies love me); I have found my salvation (guru promises peace).  Here is where I can live!  After awhile of eating I get invited inside, once inside it’s all over, I am seized bound up and saved for that fateful day when the witch will eat me.  My only hope is that Gretel will shove her in the oven.  I am going to spend more time on this, but it seems that we were all warned!  I guess I just got too hungry and forgot.

I think this forum may be the oven!  Thanks Gretel! Shove his ass in! J  He’ll get no more lives.   But I mourn the bones of the children who have gone before.
