The following statements at Wikipedia are contradictory. By the way, there is proof that Divine Light Mission = Elan Vital, it's right on the internet. I've got the details on my PC somewhere. Since when are churches non-religious? Since when does renaming an organization terminate it? That's like saying that I can kill myself by changing my name. Shades of '1984'. This idea that Divine Light Mission was dissolved is untrue, it is just doing business as Elan Vital. Criticism of Prem Rawat Criticism by protagonists of the anticult movement In the early 1980s the late Dr. Margaret Singer, a controversial anti-cult activist, included the DLM (since then disbanded and replaced by the non-religious, educational nonprofit, Elan Vital) in her list of cults. Criticism by the anti-cult movement has diminished over the course of time but has not disappeared. The Christian countercult activist Anton Hein and controversial anti-cult activists and former deprogrammers Rick Ross and Steven Hassan list links about Elan Vital on their websites. Divine Light Mission "The DLM in the West was disbanded in 1983 and was superseded by Elan Vital." Elan Vital organization "Elan Vital was incorporated in the USA in 1971, is registered as a church there, and enjoys 501(c)(3) tax exempt status." "According to Elan Vital, Inc. website, the Divine Light Mission changed its name to Elan Vital in 1987.[7] The Divine Light Mission, a new religious movement, was criticized by the anti-cult movement in the 1970s. The Historical Dictionary of New Religious Movements refers to the dissolution of Divine Light Mission." Modified by G at Sun, Mar 26, 2006, 09:40:15 |
