I don't post here much any more, but having seen the premie blog referenced above, a journal of a western premie's experiences of Maharaji's recent time in India, was annoyed enough to break silence to make some comments.

What particularly annoyed me was the quote about the ocean and the creator, where he holds his arms out "like this" (as if to imply he was the one holding the oceans?).  The premie writing this journal singled this out as being of great inspiration, and it seems to me a telling example of the dynamic of deceit which Prem still is managing to perpetrate:  the inference that he is somehow himself one and the same with that Creator.  I know there has been alot of discussion on these boards with premie revisionists about how M never said he was "Lord of the Universe", God, etc.  However, these subtle references he continually makes -- or perhaps only occasionally, as it increases the effect -- allow the manipulated devotee to feel he is privvy to some sort of secret, reinforcing their covert belief that M really IS divine, and that the premie is therefore special in having discovered this amazing fact which no one else except the other premies, of course, is in on.  (cult basics, 101)

I find it bizarre and frustrating that he continues to perpetrate this myth in this way, using sly and cunning inferences in his speeches.  (The references to dancing quoted a little further on are another example.  How can we all forget the prancing around in Krishna mala and crown while devotees swooned?  His inferences can sometimes be so roundabout you don't even realize the subconscious is being asked to associate.)   It obviously has worked very well for him over the years, in that he has become a multi-millionaire off the backs of deceived followers (myself included).  To me this, and not knowledge, is the true center of the Rawat's trip, a hidden and incredibly lucrative myth which he uses to manipulate and milk his followers of their time, energy, money and devotion.  Knowledge is merely a hook to get people suckered into devotion, and all that follows from it.

I really don't have much of a problem if people want to meditate and experience feeling peace or appreciation for creation.  But for Rawat to knowingly and purposely deflect people's appreciation of same onto himself -- indeed, he demands it -- for his own personal ego fulfillment and lust for possessions, just sickens me.

I wonder if Arti was sung at this program?  Some of the lines of Arti, if my memory serves me well, are:

"You are my mother, you are my father, you are my all, my Lord, to me"
"Creator, Preserver, Destroyer bow their heads and pray unto you"
"I bow down before such a wonderful Lord"

and many others along the same lines.  That he is STILL allowing these words to be sung to him, while he sits upon a throne and smirks, is absurd.  (And it does seem to me that he has a permanent smirk, or leer, upon his face--most definitely not the face of compassion or love one would expect to find on one who was "one" with the Creator.)  There is no way arti-singing, both in the past and now, can be dismissed as just a Hindu cultural phenomenon which is out of his control.  Sorry, but we weren't born yesterday.

In my opinion, Maharaji is a master alright -- a master of cunning and deceit, still managing to get away with the Perfect Master/Lord of the Universe scam, thereby maintaining his narcissistic and decadent lifestyle at the expense of so many innocents.  I pray that all premies, both Eastern and Western, wake up to this fraud and manipulation, and realize that an experience of life and joy, peace and fulfillment, are most definitely to be had outside the confines of Rawat worship, and indeed only then does it truly begin.  And take a good honest look at their experience of Knowledge over the years and ask themselves exactly how much of it is based upon this myth that Maharaji is somehow supernatural or divine, and not an ordinary human being like the rest of us.  And then, reading over the accounts on ex-premie.org from insiders of exactly what his personal life is like, ask themselves if this person seems worthy of their devotion and belief in his divinity.

Love to all,
Joy

P.S.  (can't resist this):  And has he or has he not grown excessively fat and pig-ugly?  (with apologies to the pig, who should not have to suffer such an unfavorable comparison)  The years of boozing and greed are definitely showing.  How anyone can think this debauched-looking person has divine qualities is beyond me.  Perhaps premies don't see it because they are used to seeing him repeatedly over the years.  But when you haven't seen him for many years, and then see a photo, it is somewhat of a shock to the system!

Hi Joy

Good to see you again here, hope life is treating you well.

Thanks for that link.  I'm not surprised to see Prem Rawat up to his usual tricks again by not revealing the true extent of what is involved in practising his 'Knowledge'.  For instance, from your link, I see he was interviewed recently for an Indian TV program presented by Rajiv Mehrotra. What Rawat says is that peace is within you and there are 4 techniques to achieve that.  However nowhere does Rawat mention that what he offers is not simply 4 techniques but, as we know, involves 'staying in touch' and more importantly placing him as an essential ingredient to achieve what he seemingly offers. The 'Importance of the Master' and all that balony.  So he continues this bait and switch technique as he has always done.  Offer something that is seemingly totally innocuous, but once anyone becames interested then through a process of boring talks, dvds and the like this changes to a whole set of beliefs, thoughts and false assumptions.  Sure many people who initially show interest will walk away but Rawat is playing a numbers game as he has always done. There will be a certain percentage of people who will stay the course and before they know it they will have become fully indoctrinated cult members giving up their time and money all for the ultimate benefit of Prem Rawat. The horrifying aspect of this game that Rawat plays is that, imo, he really believes that he is bringing 'peace' to people.

Here is the stuff from the TV interview.

On the 3rd of march Maharaji taped an interview with Rajiv Mehrotra.

Rajiv Mehrotra has a weekly chat show on Doordarshan television in India called "in Conversation" He has interviewed many world leaders and celebrities. Doordarshan is the first national TV station, accessible all across India.

I was lucky to be invited to the interview which was in English and was very lively and informative.

Yesterday (11th March) the interview aired on TV here in Delhi at 9:30 pm.

Here are some words from their conversation:

Rajiv: It seems Maharaji, my reality is different from your reality.

Maharaji: The breath comes into you and the breath comes into me.

All the people on the face of this earth have the same fundamental reality.
One perspective is saying - I think, and one perspective is saying, I know.

What I am saying is get in touch with that fundamental reality. You feel it, and thats it!

Do you want to get in touch with that reality inside of you?

R: Yes. What do I need to do to reach the peace you recommend?

M: The first step is to understand that the peace is already within you.

R: Yes I do believe that.

R: Is there a technique?

M: Yes. There are 4 techniques that take you inside.

R: Tell us what it is?

M: It begins with "Do I feel that thirst."

Once a person gets thirsty, they find the water.

R: Do you ever get thirsty?

M: Of course I do! When I get thirsty, I turn to that well within and drink.

R: What is your destination?

M: My destination is to have the access to that peace that is inside of me.

R: What would you say to Bin Laden and George Bush?

M: I have to look at them as human beings.
If it was morning I would say "good morning."
I would say, "have a good life."

If people respected life, I think we would have a better world.

What a blunt instrument he is.It makes me cross sometimes to hear these delicate concepts used as weapons to bamboozle the unwary.

Anybody know what is happening in India at the mo? I know of two leading devotees who have just jetted off there.

Love

So they are going to have Holi? I used to think Holi was fun. I really did. Certainly more fun than most of the things we did back then.

It looks like Rawat has some sort of bad rash or hyperpigmentation on his forehead and outer part of his cheeks in some of the pictures. Also, there is an interview he did on Indian tv. I wonder if that is the same sort of softball type interview he had on that DVD or if there is a chance he got asked some tough questions? I hope they keep the blog up its interesting.

Good analysis, Joy and T.

Is Rajiv Mehrotra aware of Rawat's true colors? Has he (or his research team) done any research, like 30 seconds on Google? Has he been paid to do this tame interview? Is he a premie himself? Or doesn't he really care, he's just nice and cute to all his interviewees?

Just wondering...

If you do a search on Amazon for 'Rajiv Mehrotra' you find he has edited or written a few books, including 'The Mind of the Guru : Conversations with Spiritual Masters' and 'The Essential Dalai Lama : His Important Teachings' which is quite a good seller.

I don't have the time nor inclination to find out what makes this guy tick, but I would be mildly interested to know if he sees himself as a fair-minded objective reporter, or is merely a cult apologist.

And all in one short paragraph.  So simple ( it could have come from an amoeba)...

R: What would you say to Bin Laden and George Bush?

M: I have to look at them as human beings.
If it was morning I would say "good morning."
I would say, "have a good life."

If people respected life, I think we would have a better world.

Christ. Reading that has made my blood boil. What absolute and total bollocks. What mind-numbing and loathsome rhetoric. What utter banality.

Off to have a cold shower.

but after the cold shower - think how funny it'll look on the Wiki quotes page tomorrow morning!

In the meantime, here's an off-topic joke about pressing political problems:

George Bush, Condeleeza Rice and Dick Cheney are flying on Air Force One.

George looks at Condeleeza, chuckles and says, "You know, I could throw a $1,000 bill out the window right now and make somebody very happy."

Condeleeza shrugs her shoulders and says, "Well, I could throw ten $100 bills out the window and make 10 people very happy."

Cheney says, "Of course then, I could throw one-hundred $10 bills out the window and make a hundred people very happy."

The pilot rolls his eyes, looks at all of them and says to his co-pilot, "Just listen to them . . . hell, I could throw all of them out the window and make 57.3 million people very happy."

You couldn't make this up - no-one would believe it!

Jossi bans a premie blog as not being reputable because they are quoting Prem Rawat honestly and sincerely and he is "protecting" the Inspirational Speaker of The Universe from the truth. Jossi must be one seriously sick puppy.

That was an unjustified deletion. The source is not a blog, but Doodarshan TV.  Please note that the policies and guidelines of Wikipedia about reputable sources may not apply for Wikiquote.

You really have to learn the policies and guidelines well otherwise all your edits may get reverted, regardless whether the guidelines and policies justify deletion. If you do not know the policies and guidelines then you cannot protest.

Protest? moi?

I will simply ask Jossi to explain his actions, if he can.

This is what I shall ask:

- precisely what, pray tell, is disreputable about that site? Perhaps you could have the decency to state whatever reasons you might have for doubting its authenticity before you go deleting at will - and for no apparent purpose, other than your embarrassment at what Rawat is reported (by one of his own "students", I hasten to add) to have said.

If you nurture that serenity in your life, then your fields will be filled with serenity. If you do not, your fields will be filled with thorns and weeds. (Rawat 'philosophising' in Ft. Lauderdale.)

It beats all that wet stuff from Jesus ... Consider the lilies of the fields  and all that. Far too compassionate for Rawat. Give him the 'eye-for-an-eye', 'hang 'em high', straight down the line fundamentalist propaganda any day.

No wonder he'd say Good morning  to Bush and Bin Laden.
