Yes it is humbling doubly to 1) stop having ones ego fed by virtue of being able to subjectively find a meaning for everything 2) renovate a house and realise just how bumblingly incompetent one, and the builders one hires can possibly be, particularly after watching lots of easy do it yourself house fixit shows on tele.
