There was a sardonic guy in Brighton at that time called Kerry who was into Zen. My actual recollection is that he in particularly used to squirm during my 'satsang' because it wasn't all 'zen' and, although undoubtedly unbearable to any sensible human, my style was clearly too light-hearted for his tastes. (I don't think people left the room when I spoke any more than others or him for that matter- that's just a cheap shot motivated by his own apparently continuing resentments). So it might not be this Kerry character but that's my guess. The letter reeks of someone totally stuck up with their own concepts about Knowledge and the way Maharaji fits in. Maharaji used to say 'Don't take Knowledge and fit it into your life- Do the opposite" Here is someone who brags how he kept his own life, (job, girlfriend, surfing) his own Zen concepts, and rammed the whole Maharaji thing in on top against all odds. What a feat! The objections he voices are more about his desperation to preserve his tottering edifice of concepts by assserting that he did the RIGHT thing. Neccessarily to his balance of mind we, who actually gave up our jobs, girlfriends and surfboards to OBEY Maharaji, must have done the WRONG thing. This is the thrust of his letter which he is really writing to himself to convince himself what a righteous wise fellow he is.

Whoever it is says I had no experience of Knowledge. I take that as a snide remark from someone who is obviously themselves still quite bitter against me personally. I suppose they find my current attitude threatening. I know what I experienced over 20 years of sincerely practicing Knowledge (in and out of ashrams) and am simply sorry that this anonymous coward, as a grown man, is still caught in "I experienced more than you" childishness.
