That is a shame to give Steve Hassan thirty seconds! I guess Dr Phil wanted to affiliate only to give glory to his self as the ultimate expert. I think I just got caught up in the carnival show dimension of Dr Phil, and unknowingly accepted it as entertainment... I have studied hypnosis to use in hypnotherapy, and now I can see that I was hypnotized in some ways by the stimuli (in a less than ethical way, as I'm sure most viewers of his show are influenced). I've changed my mind about Dr Phil for entertainment thanks to the posts. I can now see, and was just surprised I missed it, how he does in fact borrow from cult psychology in his hypnotic tactics to manipulate people.
What you say about Dr Phil giving only 30 seconds reminds me of how M affiliates with the United Nations and other organizations only for his own advantage (to use for hypnotic suggestion purposes only, for people to be manipulated to follow him). We know that M and other cult leaders do not believe in any of the ideals of the organizations or persons they can use to boost up their image. Rev. Jim Jones managed to get affiliations with Pres. Jimmy Carter by meeting with his wife, and with San Francisco Mayor Mascone, to name a few. He even got the Martin Luther King Humanitarian Award & Outstanding Clergyman Award in San Francisco to prop up his image. M is doing the same tactics with the UN, and by renting auditoriums as different college campuses.
