I never thought it would be me, I'm not the sort of person who drives into flooding creeks and gets stuck.  We are getting some big rains now.  And I abandoned the idea of driving to Mullum and decided to drop down to my local shops which are less than a minute away.  on the way back I think oh it's the gutters have overflowed, no idea it is Reedy Creek flooding.

A little crew  of women are already videoing me when I get out of the car and am making my way to the back of it to get my phone and then this big truck comes rattling by and I guess the water must have been over my waist for a while, it would have made very funny footage so I am going to avoid the local news tonight.

things got better, some men came and pushed me out and another truck came by with a very nice young couple and they towed me home.  I was thanking them and he said it feels great to do someone a good turn.  and I said it feels really good to have one given to you.

They just about restored my faith in humanity - strong capable friendly, worked together as a team.  it was wonderful.

but not to worry then I rang my roadside assist and they said it was flood damage not mechanical breakdown so I would have to get my insurance and I said I don't have insurance and she said you'll have to pay for it all then including towing to the garage, and she said it in such a comfortable pleased tone of voice.

Sounds bad. Hopefully, they can just dry some parts out.
I hope it doesn't cost you too much.

yeah, my car didn't swim.  it tried to, it nearly made it across except the water got deeper and eventually it had to stop.

I am upset, I was really hoping this car would last the rest of my driving days, I will not be able to replace it.

I am going to try my roadside assist again today.  I don't think my mechanic is going to be too impressed with me, he likes the car too, but he will do what he can to keep it going.  don't think it's good when you get water in the engine is it.  if you have insurance they usually write the car off.

If some electrics are damaged, they should be fairly easy to replace. The main issue would be whether water went into the air intake. Even so, that isn't necessarily fatal. I've filled the cylinders of a boat engine with sea water, and got it running again without too much difficulty.

oh thank you, that is good news.  it's not just the money, I don't want a new car.  It is a 2006 Ford Fairmont thick steel, 6 cylinders great brakes and suspension and barely a beep to be heard.  It's sitting in a rain filled gutter at the bottom of my place but not in danger of floating away - there is more rain coming.

I rang the roadside assist again and no problem this time and this works well for me as the garage that provides the road assist is also my garage - the mechanics know my car and me, he knows I love my car and was quite hopeful - it's pretty good but water in the spark plugs so he went and got a tow truck and now the golden nugget is safely garaged and I know they are busy, with all rain so I said I am home and dry, put me to the back of the queue - it might be a few days but she will get any treatment needed to keep her in good nick.

it is almost surreal to wake up to sunny skies.  It went from being described as a 50 year flood to a 100 year flood to a 'record breaking rain event'  but it really looks like it is over.  phew.

It's been and continues to be pretty awful for a lot of people and of course the animals.

I am fine, for me it is just my car which is downstairs in the garage / studio, carpets out, all doors open fans and dehumidifier going.  It has a new air filter and engine running just fine.  so far wiring seems ok too.  because it took so long to respond, I even got a phone call from road assist to make sure I was happy with them!

So, they got the car running and it's all good?

That's great news.

yeah.  It's still soggy inside.  I won't feel relaxed about it til it's dry.  But I am in the process of hiring a detailer who will come and take the seats out and give everything a good clean.

and I am about to go to Mullum so I will drive with all windows open.  The engine felt great when I drove back from the garage.
