It's getting so bad that I'm starting to like John McCain and Lindsey Graham.

Yep, this really feels STRANGE. It's unbelievable.
I'm starting to like a lot of the old Republicans like McCain, Graham and even Orin Hatch.
But this healthcare disaster is really going to change the minds of people who voted for Trump when they get booted off Medicaid or their insurance plan no longer freely covers a lot of basics that they've become accustomed to.
I'm wondering what I'm going to lose next year in my employer provided plan. What care will I have to start paying for that I'm getting for free now?

Most troubling is that the Reps are not laying out in simple terms exactly how their plan is going to work. All they spew is rhetoric, instead of explaining precisely how this new health care insurance plan will work. Give people some practical information for christ's sake.
I pay attention to all of this only to the detriment of my mental health.  It's anxiety-producing, to be sure.

Living in Germany gives me a new perspective about how things actually could be in the US. My agency happens to work for a company that makes software for insurance companies, both in Europe and the US. So I have gotten a sense about how the whole thing works.
The healthcare of the average (not wealthy) American is already shamefully substandard compared to places like Germany. Americans have to worry about things that Germans don't even think about. It certainly is far from perfect here too, and I would love to see the whole system dramatically disrupted, but Germany is way ahead of the US at this point. Even the most conservative German (my stepmother) is shocked at the lack of coverage in the US.
That the Freedom Caucus has somehow managed to convince a sector of the population that this is a good thing defies my comprehension. How is it that one of the richest countries in the world does not see it as a given to provide adequate healthcare to all of its citizens?

This word is the evasive modern term business uses to express an old observation about how capitalism works: creative destruction. Sounds much nicer, less threatening, & as long as it applies only to the consumer getting better products at a lower price, then the voter doesn't care about the businesses which go bust as a result. There was even a song about it once....video stole the radio show.
Healthcare, being a mutual enterprise between the taxpayer & the providers, not only doesn't fit into that, but the business interests involved, insurance, banking, high finance in general, are sufficiently powerful to successfully resist.
How is it that one of the richest countries in the world does not see it
as a given to provide adequate healthcare to all of its citizens?
'Rich' is maybe a little optimistic given the level of US govt debt....what is it now, $18 trillion? The sector of the
population convinced that this can't continue without worrisome & unpredictable consequences has been lied to for so long & by all sides of the body political that in desperation they've elected the oaf Trump.
I see the same thing here with the Brexit, which I voted for in order to get free from an unelected oligarchy, but which appears to be getting hijacked by a faction within the Tory party intent on balancing the books by de-mutualising healthcare & reducing wages over time to a Vietnamese level.
My hope is that we deplorables in the countries that have flexible political systems can come up with mutual institutions which work, before it gets really nasty. There's a way to go before then probably.
Take a look at this infographic & tell me there isn't a way to cut out the rent seekers in the US system. Look at the UK figure & tell me the rent seekers don't see an opportunity to match the US.
This isn't over yet by a long way.

It is exhausting watching all of this. I guess people are really going to get tired of this administration pretty quickly. I have already mostly stopped paying attention. I can't watch Trump or his press secretary or that Kelly Anne whatever her name is anymore. I just skim through the reports. But even that is becoming unbearable.

And the big priority? a giant military increase, 54 billion. Trump plans on some new anti-submarine stuff, which should speed up the defeat of ISIS. As for the debt, who will collect?
