Hi Nige I think you'll find that "fall" is actually the original English word for Autumn. It was used in Elizabethan times and maybe long before.Not sure when it was dropped in favour of the word "autumn". I guess its use comes from falling leaves. English settlers in America continued its use and, obviously, it's still used over there. The Yanks, therefore, are using the more authentic English : )) Having said all that, I'm only going by something I read many years ago.
