Well his theory must be correct because no sooner did I read this post than I saw him interviewed on T.V.

Seriously though, I presume the the foundation of this theory is borrowed from the noosphere concept first formulated by Vladimir Verdansky and elaborated by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin (a Jesuit priest and paleontologist, amongst other things).

Nelson also heads something called the Global Consciousness Project and this is clearly an attempt to lend some scientific credibility to the mix. He doesn't (and can't) claim that this is yet a scientific model but clearly he is attempting to build enough research data via the monitoring of random electronic internet activity for example, to support the theory. For example, examining anomalies in the graph following key events on the planet such as 9/11.
