1. I called them "unscrupulous," so I don't believe any of the famous 70's gurus were "shining examples." I just think that GMJ was notable in his vacuity. He didn't say anything about meditation except to obey his command to do it for two hours a day. Although the ones the general public knows about abused their positions, mostly in the overlapping areas of power, money, and sex, they often began their lives as teachers with something interesting to say about meditation. Ex-premies are probably not fans of meditation to begin with, I guess, so maybe that's not much of a selling point on this Forum.

2. Those pictures of gurus you linked to...some of them, like Freud, Alan Watts, Allen Ginsberg, George Harrison, (just looking at the bottom row) are not gurus. And not all gurus and lamas are predatory charlatans, IMO.
