This time feeding off the Red Cross' good name in the Phillipines:

MANILA, Philippines, June 22 /U.S. Newswire/ -- A generous donation was made by The Prem Rawat Foundation (TPRF) to the Philippine National Red Cross (PNRC) to provide continuing aid to survivors of the massive landslide that hit the village of Guinsaugon in eastern Philippines earlier this year. This donation will provide nutritious food packs for two months to all 190 families living in the Catmon Evacuation Center in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte.

Gwendolyn Pang, PNRC Director of Fund Generation and Executive Assistant to the Chairman, said: "It is in the generosity of our partners like TPRF that we draw our strength in serving the most vulnerable."

From Marnie Sambalido, daughter of PNRC Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon: "On behalf of my father, the Philippine National Red Cross, and the people of Leyte, I thank you for your generosity and eagerness to help. The town of St. Bernard experienced such a devastating calamity, as you know, and is really in great need. Your donation will be put to good use."

Following weeks of heavy monsoon rain, a massive landslide hit, burying hundreds of houses and a school packed with elementary students under four meters of mud in Southern Leyte. There were only 410 recorded survivors from Guinsaugon's original population of approximately 1,500 people. Additionally, people from six other villages were evacuated from their homes due to imminent threats from unstable hillside foundations.

Today there are still over a thousand families displaced from their homes and living in evacuation centers. Due to the continued danger of repeated mudslides, these people cannot return to their villages and have not yet found new homes. At this time, food and water are the priority for these people. The donation from TPRF will help PNRC in providing these basic food needs.

The Prem Rawat Foundation furthers the message of peace of Prem Rawat, known also as Maharaji, and helps improve the quality of life for people most in need. Recently, the Foundation's efforts have brought disaster relief and food aid to people in Côte d'Ivoire, Grenada, Guatemala, India, Indonesia, Mexico, Niger, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, the United States, and now the Philippines. In a tribal area of northeastern India, the Foundation opened "Food for People," a 10,000-square-foot permanent facility where 45,000 meals are served each month to villagers. This project is one of many spearheaded by Prem Rawat and his Foundation in an effort to bring basic necessities such as food, water, and adequate medical care to those in need around the world.

It couldn't have been much money, TPRF didn't say.  Plus, as of March 7, 2006, there were over 1,800 families in need, and about 6,200 hundred individuals.  They sure waited long enough to do something for these people.

http://www.reliefweb.int/rw/rwb.nsf/db900SID/KHII-6MU7MF?OpenDocument

I also noticed a couple of degrees of separation here, that doesn't give Rawat much puff for his resume.   I wonder if these two women are 1) premies; and/or 2) plain old-fashioned secretaries with fancy titles.  Whoops, one's a daughter.

Gwendolyn Pang, PNRC Director of Fund Generation and Executive Assistant to the Chairman, said: "It is in the generosity of our partners like TPRF that we draw our strength in serving the most vulnerable."

From Marnie Sambalido, daughter of PNRC Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon....

Interesting.

It sounds like the standard stuff you get when you make any kind of donation... I got one recently from the search and rescue people that made it sound as if I haul all those injured hikers off of mountains all by myself, just because I sent them money.  And it's not just them - I know several people who support orphaned children through the Christian Children's Fund, and according to CCF they're all versions of Mother Teresa.  But presenting a mail-merged form letter as evidence of partnership with legitimate charities does seem like a typically-TPRF thing to do.  Kind of sad.

There are around 533 in the evacuation center (source
http://coe-dmha.org/Leyte/Phil022706.htm).
These food packs probably don't cost much money, the cost could be as low as 25 cents per person per day or quite a bit higher, my guess is 50 cents per person per day or a total of around $16,000, assuming this is all true and not exaggerated. This is not something to BRAG about, even if  Rawat had personally given the money out of his own fat  pockets, which he lined with cash taken from his followers.

Funnily enough, many of the comments to the others seem, remarkably, to string easily together.....

The World fund raiser disguise is not funny. This is no comedy. It is more like the shocking story of two boy's gangs. A portrait
of a would be singer songwriter who manicly tried to be a legend, but is now depressed to find he is viewed more as a devil.
Hell!, A family's dark past returns with a vengeance: a horror of the devil child variety: scary!
Dead, spaced out, zombie romances; a vampire sc-fi in ultraviolet.
