Below are audio links to the 1977 Portland, Oregon coodinators conference with Maharaji. This was discussed on the Forum a couple of years ago, but it's pretty damning stuff.

One interaction in the Q&A period really hit me.

A premie said he moved out of the San Francisco ashram because he felt lack of support and direction.  He said he sent a letter to Maharaji asking him what he should do and he got no response.  This seemed to really piss off Maharaji.

After berating him for being in his mind, Maharaji said that one should never move out of the ashram without personal direction from Rawat, and that he should wait for a response to a request to Rawat even if it takes a 100 years.  He follows with an inane Hindu story about following the perfect master's agya no matter what.  He also reiterates what he had said in Atlantic City that ashram was "intensive care" from Maharaji. So much for this idea that the ashrams were just voluntary institutions to protect us from drugs and that Maharaji wasn't involved personally with them and threatening people about not leaving.

You can just hear the pain and anguish in the premie's voice because he believes who Rawat says he is.  Rawat takes no responsibility for anything, he just blames others, even a premie who was trying to devote his life to him and who believed he was his master and who sincerely asked for direction.  Rawat's response is to attack him as confused and ungrateful.  Such a nice guy.  I'm sure that premie was devestated.

Maharaji repeats over and over that the goal is devotion and surrender and obedience to Maharaji  A premie is nothing without Maharaji.  A premie can expect nothing from Rawat except the opportunity to give everything and surrender to him.  Period.  What a destructive, self-demeaning trip Maharaji laid on us.

Anyhow, if you have the stomach to listen, please do.

I'm still amazed at how much my stomach turns when I listen to those things.   Also amazed at how much he sounds like a little boy, even in 1977.  He was 20 by then, and there's subservience to him by grown men.

Coordinators speak directly to Rawat about community premies having "more devotion to you."  M didn't offer to clear up that "confusion," like it was supposed to be to devotion to his father or just Knowledge, or whatever hogwash is put out these days, that we idiots were so mistaken about!
