I would like to think that the whole sordid affair will make Tom Cruise look like a schmuck and Scientology like a refuge for nutters.

Fat chance though.

My guess is that they'll run the Southpark episode later, after the hubbub dies down.  Isaac Hayes, who is actually on the Southpark cast, is also a Scientologist, and he recently quit because of what he considered negative portrayals of his favorite cult.  But it's not like it's all that hard to replace a cartoon character.

Those two - John and Jane Smith - have put a lot on the line. Let's just hope that the money behind Scientology won't defeat them.

Incidentally - the parallels with Prem Rawat's early days are interestingly evident in the last ten minutes or so of that episode - though he never was honest enough as his South Park equivalent to "do a Krishnamurti", if you know what I mean.
