Prem Rawat Honored by International University of Peace

To: National and International Desks Source: The Prem Rawat Foundation,

FLORIANOPOLIS, Brazil, Oct. 26 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Prem Rawat was made an ambassador for peace by Pierre Weil, the rector of the International University of Peace. Pierre Weil received the UNESCO Prize for Peace Education in 2000. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2003. He has authored the classic book The Art of Living in Peace.

Prem Rawat, known also as Maharaji, was invited to deliver a keynote address at the International Festival of Peace held at Unipaz, the International University of Peace, in Florianopolis, Brazil. Unipaz aims to build a culture of peace.

Thanking Prem Rawat, Rector Pierre Weil said: "On behalf of the University of Peace, I grant you the title of Ambassador for Peace. You don't need a certificate, because your mission is to help people find where peace is, to help open a spring of peace in their hearts. But many people need to know who the Ambassadors for Peace are, they need to know whom to look for, search for - that is why we are giving you the title of Ambassador for Peace."

Welcoming Prem Rawat, vice-rector Roberto Crema said: "We welcome Prem Rawat's presence as one of the greatest representatives of the peace movement in the world. More than his ideas, his actions are the concrete expression of a world of peace that we can know now."

Unipaz is one of three universities of peace, along with the UN University in Tokyo and the University for Peace in Costa Rica. It was born in 1986, inspired by the UNESCO Charter that states that wars begin inside of human beings and that it is within people that the defenses for peace need to be built. It has campuses in 12 cities in Brazil, as well as branches in Portugal, France, Belgium, the UK, Argentina, and Ecuador. Unipaz has been honored for its original approach to peace education and for training leaders to have a new consciousness that allows them to serve with a global vision as well as care for local needs.

The activities of the six-day Festival of Peace were webcast internationally. More than 15,000 people watched the proceedings, and more than 1,000 attended the event in person each day.

One attendee said, "I appreciate his humanitarian efforts. I also understand that what he says about peace is of fundamental importance. I am glad that he could be with us in Florianopolis."

A person in Venezuela who watched the broadcast said, "Thank you for the opportunity to watch Prem Rawat's presentation in this expressive event in University of Peace. Listening to him was a gift."

Hi Turey, you are becoming an exponent of the art of packing a lot into a one liner, I look forward to the day when your insights can stretch out and relax on a whole page.  Any chance of a computer upgrade on the horizon?

In terms of hurtz and bytes, you get gigas for your bucks these days.  Ah, the wonders of digital technology!

Gosh..If you read the first paragraph quickly it looks as though the 'he' that wrote the famous book and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize might be Rawat!

This ugly and transparent self-promoting nonsense was a real drip for me  ..Unlike the 'great spearhead' no real charities or charity leaders behave this way.  Certainly individuals never accept the credit for donations that other people have made and work that others have done...they accept awards 'on behalf of' of their organisations and avoid personal credit.  I wonder what some of these dignitaries really think of Rawat?

Here is an example of a real charity (that I have always supported in a small way)

http://www.oxfam.org.uk/press/releases/seoul1.htm

If you care to look through at what it does and where the money goes you will see that another feature of a real charity is that 'programme and support service' constitute an entirely insignificant fraction of total expenditure.

best

Tim

Hello Tim,

The Oxfam link was a refreshing departure from the usual Rawat trumped up self-promoting credits.  I don't know how Weil knows he was nominated for the Nobel Prize because nominations are kept secret for around 75 years.  More self promotion, I reckon.

These three "honors" listed on the TPRF site just crack me up:

Resolution, General Assembly of the State of Connecticut - This one was written and put through by the father of an early premie who I had an intimate relationship with in the 70s.  His father was a state of Connecticut representative from Hartford.  They do these every day of the week.

Letter of appreciation, Vermont Historical Society - Being a Vermonter, I checked up on that one a long time ago by writing the VHS and they wrote me back.  Here's the librarian's response to me.

Letter of appreciation National Geographic Society - this one gobsmacks me because I've received letters of appreciation from the NGS because I subscribe to the magazine.  Anyone who subscribes gets one and is considered a "member."  lol

I searched around the internet for sites about The International Holistic University of Peace and Pierre Weil.  They teach kids how to mediate.  "Well," I thought, "Ain't that a fine conflict of interest."
