The significance of saying that Rawat sat in the audience while others spoke is that this happens so rarely (Rawat listening to anyone) that it is newsworthy.

No, it really is bizarre that the author felt this needed saying, and that the author couldn't see how cult-like this looks to anyone who is not a premie.
