I read about that too and found it sort of hard to believe. I guess when I started to find it easier to believe was when I read about the man who kidnapped Elizabeth Smart and his wife. As you read about their relationship it certainly seemed like a cult with one folllower, and then of course Elizabeth after she was kidnapped.

I feel a little wierd about all my open speculation about Marolyn. So much about her makes it seem like she initially bought into the same stuff we did. I don't know what I would have done if I had been "chosen" by prem as the Durga Ji. I was one of the few premies younger than he was so it isn't analogous anyway. I  have a hard time imagining most premie women at that time suddenly snapping out of the Agya/Gopi mode and saying I can't do THAT you are just a kid. Who knows how their relationship evolved. But the whole thing creeps me out. I suppose like if Rawat did a Jim Jones and asked us to drink the Kool Aid, I think I would have. But god I hope I would have refused to give it to a baby, as was done in Jonestown. Thinking about things like that is enough to make you want to forget you ever were in a cult and never think about it again. That is one thing that makes me feel tremendous sympathy for PAMs, a lot of them did get faced with having to do things I am sure they are very ashamed of now in the name of devotion, trying to live with knowing you did something like that must be very hard indeed. I wonder if some of them stay just because leaving would mean having to face some of that.
