I didn't bother reading the rest, as, apart from the vaguely nice Lennon bits, I didn't want the pure heat of the coming Catholic explanation.

Personally, as I've said here before, I was brought up a good non-conformist by a Spiritualist father (head of the Northern England circuit).

We didn't give a shit about organised religion - in fact despised it. We were more interested in a pure unadulterated connection to God via our ordinary honesty and conscience. Our own route, in which we found our own internal answers without any externally imposed balls.

I still find this true, without any prejudices to anyone who may find differently.

Maybe it isn't God, but just some form of evolutionary intuition which feels correct and gives some satisfaction.

However, to be in tune with our conscience, to try to do the best which we know, and perhaps hear that inner voice which I believe is there to help us, may be enough for many of us.
