I personally have nothing to be squeemish about regarding this quote. He said what he said. The only thing negative I can say is it is a tad politically incorrect for today's palate. Could be why he hasn't said such things for 20 years. He said what he said based on his own feeling about his Master. Lovers say similar things as an expression of their devotion to their loved one. Yeah he said what he said alright! What do you think of the other quotes on Gallery 8? And you honestly think that lovers say similar things as an expression of their devotion to their loved one? Did you ever have a girlfriend who claimed to be the Superior Power in Person, Balyogeshwar, or Lord of the Universe and who gave you agya and who said some of the things Maharaji said on Gallery 8? The thing to note is, instead of saying what he said to instill slavish obedience (which is the slant you guys would want to promote), he said it to teach. He certainly never asked anyone to jump down a well... or chop off their head, or knee-cap an ex-premie. There were very few who got close enough to be asked anything specific. What he did however ask of every premie was to practice Knowledge. To truly practice Knowledge takes the kind of faith and trust he alludes to in his quote... that you would do what the person you accepted as your Master has asked of you without question, i.e., let go to what is happening inside through Knowledge. In my opinion he said what he said to instill slavish obedience (devotion) and in the process amassed a fortune of $55,000,000. Sure he did some teaching. And didn't he ask someone to hit a reporter in the head with a hammer? And just for the record jonx I'm all for letting go to what is happening inside through Knowledge. Good stuff! I don't think Maharaji has anything to do with it though. As I've said before, if slavish devotion was all there was, I would most certainly join the chorus with ex-premies calling for justice. But it's not. There's an experience that, when you surrender to it and let it take you, is nothing short of divine. As far as I am concerned, for certain periods, slavish devotion was all there was - at least from Maharaji. You abviously tuned 1983 out. And sure there were many beautiful things many of us experienced, good times for sure, but that had more to do with people using four powerful meditation techniques to mellow out, than it had to do with anything from Maharaji. It was my experience that most of the time Maharaji and the Church Ladies got in the way of those beautiful things. I agree. There's an experience that, when you surrender to it and let it take you, is nothing short of divine. That experience comes about by my own effort when I practice the ancient public-domain meditation techniques premies call Knowledge. If you want to stick with Maharaji and have him as your master, fine, go ahead, knock yourself out, fill yer boots. But don't come here spreading your revisionist bullshit and expecting us to swallow it. Modified by Steve at Tue, Aug 02, 2005, 21:20:17 |
