Politicians may lie and deceive, but they usually do so in the full glare of publicity, and in free societies are forced to subject themselves to rigorour interrogation by unfriendly journalists. Rawat hasn't allowed himself to be freely interviewed by the media for over 30 years, and I suspect his performance, were he to do so, wouldn't come close to that of a seasoned politician.
