My own personal view about the damage created by Rawat and his teaching goes back to the ashram days.  Sorry if this is ancient history to some people, but I think that it still is around to a certain extent and therefore pertinent.  It is the issue of friendship.  When we went to the ashram meeting in Kissimmee in 1978 or 1979, Rawat told us to not have friends.  He spoke about this for awhile, saying that firendships between people are an actual hindrance to the "inner friend" that we were seeking.  This concept is not unique to the 1970's or to Rawat.  Those people who seek for enlightenment or inner fulfillment often feel that any outer fulfillment actually gets in the way.  I now believe in friendship, and I even think that we find our real selves through friendships to a certain and important degree.  I think that Rawat was dangerously wrong on this issue and continues to be wrong.  Our fulfillment as human beings cannot be supplied so simplistically by the inner experiences found in meditation or by following an authority figure such as Rawat.

I know one premie in particular who remains devoted to Rawat and who is one of the most cold-hearted people I've ever met.   And I largely blame his involvement with Rawat's cult for this.
