The comment is important because it shows that Prem Rawat was aware that he was the de-facto leader of the DLM regardless of formal structures. And because he was the de-facto leader, he was also repsonsible for frequent and deep "misunderstandings" regardings his divinity. As you are aware, many current followers assert that Prem Rawat never made claims of divinity, was never the leader of the DLM and hence cannot be held responsible for the misunderstandings or misguided belief of some followers that he was divine or near-divine.
