Latvians remember the Latvian victims of the Holocaust today by each house flying the Latvian flag with black ribbons, as we do on other days when we remember the many thousands of victims of Soviet atrocities.

Dave Letterman said it well at the end of that vid, "God, that was nice."

Thanks dear Jed. First dry day here in weeks which will work for my plans, party w/ 3 bands at a local winery. No rain on the remaing 3 days I have off from work!

How thoughtful of you, for our holiday. Maybe you have it as a Bank Holiday, I've always thought that odd bland name for a holiday.

Hope you are well and enjoying life.

Here is a 4th of July song for you, Niel Diamond's America sung in Glastonbury. I saw on the morning news that he will be singing at a big celebration in Boston, Mass.

Thanks Robyn. A great watch.

This year at the festival I saw, on TV from the comfort of my chill out room, Neil Young, and Crosby Stills and Nash.
Both were great as long as you kept your eyes shut. Their harmonies were as great as ever, BUT I did feel a bit embarrassed for them since they were clearly passed it physically.
I saw 'Jersey Boys' a couple of weeks ago in London. It was way beyond my expectations.

..and yes I am enjoying life..

Love Jethro

She has a strong and beatiful face.

Last nights Arik Einstein' 70 birthday was celebrated by many performers and people in the huge Park of Tel Aviv, without him, he is shy and stopped performing for the public many years ago. He still makes records and write its lyrics. So does Shalom Chanoch and Chava Alberstein who embody, for me, the beauty and innocence of my country.

I also cherish Neil Young and Crossby, Still and Nash.

BTW, the figure in white is Yehudith Ravitz, an excellent musician and singer, at that time 1977-78, she came to satsang and one of her songs was adapted by the cult. Me and my friend Frida used to clean her house and Frida, the strong premie, found this a good opportunity to enforce the doctorine into her.

Dear Robyn

I'm glad you're doing well.

This is a one of the most beatiful love poems, written by a poet. My free poor translation: your forehead is adorned with black gold, I don't know if it was ever said in a song but whoever has you, his life will be filled with songs.

Love, Miri

...and the moon rose over an open field ...

I've always loved that particular, simple, stark, evocative line. Kinda enhanced within the song itself I suppose but ...

I wasn't aware of it but, apparently, the Dixie one was written by a Northerner and the Battle Hymn by a Southerner.

A nice twist of fate under the circumstances.

American Minute for July 4th:

The Declaration of Independence was approved JULY 4, 1776. John Hancock signed first, saying "the price on my head has just doubled." Benjamin Franklin said "We must hang together or most assuredly we shall hang separately." Of the 56 signers: 17 served in the military, 11 had their homes destroyed, 5 were hunted and captured, Abraham Clark had two sons imprisoned on the British starving ship Jersey, John Witherspoon's son was killed in battle, Francis Lewis' wife was inprisoned and died from the harsh treatment, many, such as Thomas Nelson and Carter Braxton, lost their fortunes and 9 died during the War. When Samuel Adams signed the Declaration, he said: "We have this day restored the Sovereign to whom all men ought to be obedient. He reigns in heaven and from the rising to the setting of the sun, let His kingdom come." John Adams said: "I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty." John Adams continued: "I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure that it will cost to maintain this Declaration...Yet through all the gloom I can see the rays of ravishing light and glory...Posterity will triumph in that day's transaction, even though we [may regret] it, which I trust in God we shall not."
