I just heard of a treatment for it.  Colloidal silver, drop in the ear, keep it up for ages and eventually it clears it.

I heard about the use of colloidal silver for all sort of things ages ago and it's not new to our generation.  It's mildly anti-bacterial, known side effect is it can cause argyria (where your skin turns grey) if you are prone.

anyway, we all have our pet remedies, and I prefer to use coconut oil in my ears but I don't have tinnitus and so many premies do. (not enough meditation on the divine bliss of the cosmic vibrations).

Thought I'd mention it as doctors don't have a remedy but this has proved effective for a number of people so far, from the woman who told me about it.

Yeah, I had some temporary tinnitus in my left ear this afternoon.  It was really loud and annoying.  Eventually, it cleared on its own.

But, I swear an oath to you all, I was not meditating.

Knee jerk reaction to when the subject is to do with hearing, to pretend not to have heard. Doesn't work written down.

Well, me and the kid were both doing graphs yesterday, and I came across this one:

I made a graph of all my previous relationships. There was an ex axis and a why axis.

Happy Christmas.

My wife tells me she has been using it for sore throats and it works well.
I have tinnitus and will give it a try as nothing else has ever worked.

yes, I remember using it for something and it worked well.  oh yes, as a mouth wash.

I looked it up and found this story of a young woman in New York back in time maybe late 19th or early 20th, can't remember anyway she was putting it up her nose and she turned grey.  I don't remember the story well enough, but the point is argyria - the silver collects just below the skin, quite rare but there are some people prone to this.  and it's irreversible.  I decided to take it anyway.

the woman who told me about this said she put a small drop in each ear once a day for months and then one day she realised she wasn't hearing the tinnitus any more.

I gave up trying remedies several years ago. All the 'healers' I met and said they could heal it, but could not produce a single person when I pressed them.

You are the first person I know who knows someone with success.
Anyway, I'll give it a try...who knows maybe I'll get a proper nights sleep one of these nights, otherwise nothing lost. (I don't mind my skin turning grey   )

Seasons greetings btw.

I have a bit of tinnitus. Apparently the most common cause is age-related hearing loss. For that condition there are some interesting apps available. This one sounds promising. I know about it because it is a German startup, but they have an English-language website and it is available on both the App Store and Google Play:

30 years ago when we were in the cult, very many of us spent significant amounts of our time concentrating on the sound of our tinnitus trying to give the experience a divine spin. For most of us, this was the Divine Music, bestowed on us by the grace of the Lord to lead us to enlightenment.

Now here we are, old farts with failing senses and bodies, dealing with tinnitus in much more down-to-earth and realistic ways. It's just one of the ways some of us are declining. I know I don't have the patience to put a few drops in my ears for months. But I'd be glad to be no longer plagued by what I used to regard as a signal from the divine.

I think the contrast between how we regard that sensation between then and now is very funny, quite ludicrous. What vapid people we were! And now, trading folk remedies to try to cure the same sensation. ?

Thanks so much, J.  I learned a new word today. A VERY interesting word. I find it amazing I never heard it before.  Telling my Rabbi I was joining a cult, HAD to label me as such. Though he left as our rabbi when our congregation refused his demands — negotiated by his attorney/daughter— for a lifetime contract with an interest raising clause to his lifetime salary!! So whose apikoros now?  Good luck with medical care or Medicare

that when I was in Israel (1970s) quite a few religious people received K, including one Yeshiva teacher(who spent time with BBJ aka Satpal)who taught the techniques to some of his students, until someone told him it was forbidden.
I also knew some yeshiva bochers who did the same techniques, but not from any guru).
I probably wrote more about this when I first came on the forum in the late 90s and it may be in the archives(if they still exist).
Cheers.

It's just straightforward talk like we did before we learnt better. I'm not being rude but now I feel like being rude to you!

Yes Australia is still a good place to live. I can't help but feel privileged looking out to sea from my brothers verandah as the Sydney to Hobart race got underway - all black sails this year. I guess some fab new fabric. The white sails look so wonderful tho against the blue of sea and sky.

Although I have tinnitus occasionally, I wouldn't put colloidal silver, or anything silver in my body, including my ears.  I think it's a poison and the Food and Drug Admin. advises against using that product.

Hi Cynthia. I have just done a brief search to try and find out if silverware was originally created for medicinal purposes but couldn't find an answer. However I did find the Ayurvedic crew suggesting a silver spoon for babies.

There is quite a lot of people selling colloidal silver or the things you need to make it yourself. So lots of self interest in the promotion of it.

The only side effect I could find when I looked it up for myself was argyria. But I didn't want to keep using a metal longterm so I stopped using it as a mouthwash once my gum was back to normal.

So I do question why so long to cure tinnitus. It seems to be effective fairly rapidly on other things. According to the Ayurvedic site silver isn't assimilated by the body so it is safe to use longterm but then they do have some fanciful scientific notions dont they.

its been around for a long time. It is effective on some things. It probably is better to suck on a silver spoon than a plastic one.

And the manufacture of modern medicines is increasingly shoddy.  If you have to take a medicine check it out and you are likely to find forums full of people having bad reactions - so if the silver works on the ailment why not?  From what I understand argyria is rare tho I guess if increasing numbers of people are taking silver longterm it could become less rare.

Modern medicine doesn't have an alternative medicine for tinnitus and the woman who told me about its use for tinnitus said she knew of 15 other people it had worked for so I imentioned it here but I am certainly not promoting it.  I hope it hasn't really made Jethros tinnitus worse.

Lesley,
It really did make it worse. I had 2 of the worst nights ever.
If it has worked for your friend and her friends, I am very pleased for them, but it just aggravated my condition.
Now after a third night, it has gone back to how it was, 24/7 but less intense, so I doubt I would try it again.
But, as I said I put some on my athletes toe, which has been really itchy for a few weeks and it cleared it up within a day.

Cheers.

Sorry to hear that Jethro and relieved it hasn't stayed in a worsened condition.

Back home tomorrow but I played bridge tonight. It was very enjoyable playing with such good players tho I was not in top form and just happy to get a reasonable result.  Funnily enough one of my errors accidentally gave us a top board!
