I was once given the job of disposing of a massive pile of magazines, Elan vital or something like that. I felt a bit odd just putting them in the bin, so I rescued all the photos. Then I made some into a mosaic on my room wall, which grew to fill the wall. It became a local premie tourist attraction. Even in my most devoted phase, it seemed a bit creepy even to me but I thought I'd leave it a while.
The first big event in Orlando was announced, and completely out of money, two of us went job hunting and immediately got two jobs, each. One shifting furniture all day for a removals company, the other working in the Lucozade factory. The factory was night shift. We figured we could go 2 weeks with very little sleep doing both jobs and we'd have the money.
Near the end of our mission, we came back to the flat around midnight absolutely shattered. There was a party next door. Someone left our door open and the party spilled into our flat. I didn't care. I was ready to hit the sack. Someone said something, and I turned round to find a large drunk man staring at the wall, trying to work out what he was seeing. When he recognised Rawat, he became very scathing and abusive and I told him to leave. He didn't and wouldn't. I must have been out of my mind with lack of sleep. I slammed him against the wall, then hit the bottom of his wine glass sending the wine sailing up into the air and landing on his head. I'm only little.
Off he went and I thought that was the end of it. But he went back next door and came back to my room with a great carving knife, clearly about to use it. I had a mattress and a pillow. I picked up the pillow... And our shouting attracted the attention of others, and just as he lunged for me and I uselessly flapped the pillow his direction, he was grabbed by the arms and dragged out of the flat.
We did have the money and we got to Orlando, but my route was very roundabout and I didn't get back for several months, so I never saw that flat again.
