The guy who had organised the charter, one of the early days DLM super premies, hadn't thought it was important to pay for the return leg. Actually, eventually, the good old British taxpayer paid up as the Embassy got involved, the passengers being largely indigent by then, not insured, & just hanging around the airport being totally useless whilst quietly hustling for food & drink.
