On a superficial level the "hook" for HBO's Big Love series is polygamy, but the show is really about cults and the insidious way they insinuate themselves into our lives (and into the very culture of the country). There are actually a lot of LDS spinoff cults that practice polygamy, and it's unlikely that we'll ever really get a handle on it. But one should primarily be concerned about the mafiosa aspects of leaders like "Roman" in the series, who is essentially the leader of an organized criminal enterprise that regards sexual exploitation of children as a right. Having crossed one line he crosses a lot of others, and influences others to do so.
And the truth is I'd watch anything with Chlo Sevigny in it, Allah help me.
