Are you sure that this was his real civilian name? Who were his parents? The "Hansa" as a religious symbol in Hinduism might have been adopted during his career in becoming or making himself the satguru and successor of Sarupanand, which sheds some funny light on the ongoing discussion at Wikipedia, were premies now start to state that he has his authority completely out of himself, no heritage needed. Well. that's the way everybody does it, when the master goes and different disciples "feel" it's their turn and start their own business. toby
