Amazon.com has a few pages, which I just read. His style seems very appealing, and like some of my other favorite authors.
When first getting sober, certain books and movies were not such a good idea, because they were "triggers" or suggestive reminders of past self-inflicted behavior. But, after 10.5 years, this would be OK for me.
Admittedly, even today, even after 10.5 years and all the tragedy I caused myself, sometimes the allure of doing drugs pops into my brain. But, I've taught myself to discern impulse from action and learned that I don't have to be a slave to my impulses anymore.
Relating this to leaving cults, people who seriously want to extricate themselves from a cult should consider and apply the suggestions for people who want to quit drugs. It's not easy, but worth the result!
In regards to what you wrote about relapse, it's entirely possible that cult members who are trying to quit can have relapses, just like drug addicts. The recent poster "Kerry" strikes me as a good example of a relapsed cult member in how she first joined the forum and, after a week or so, erased all her posts.
But, while there is no way of knowing her story, it still seems possible for an exiting member to relapse back into the cult or migrate to another harmful mind-controlling ideology. Haven't there been successful Rawat splinter groups that target ex-members?
