I think we need to be careful not to trivialise the word 'addiction' by overusing it. If you describe any activity you like doing as 'addiction' you lose the force of the word - even an activity you might be a bit obsessive about.

To me,'addiction' is something serious, and to be taken seriously. It denotes at least extreme dependency, and is destructive by definition.

People often say things like 'I am addicted to chocolate'. I would say that trivialises the word, unless they are eating so much chocolate that they are in serious physical danger.

While perhaps some people get into head games that they call 'meditation', and which in some cases might be appropriate to be called 'addiction' (eg Cynthia's example), I think this is stretching it a bit.

I am not rushing to the defense of meditation, but simply would like to keep 'addiction' for the serious condition it is.
