According to Dettmers, when Rawat's marraige started to fall apart after Raja Ji's had already fallen apart, he was really afraid that that Mata Ji would be shown to be right.  For some reason that was a big deal to him, and that's when he started confiding in Dettmers.  It's also when he started having sex with premies.  So, it may have had more to do with that, than doubting who he thinks he is.

I think in the end, it doesn't really matter.  If Maharaji is himself a sociopath con man, or if he is in a "system" that is so fatally flawed that he can't do anything about it, I don't think it much matters, and I guess I frankly don't care.

I also noticed that one of Glen's internal memos said that the "re-evaluation" that Rawat made in the mid-80s was evidence that he was trying to reform.  I don't know if Glen actually knew that, or if that was yet another rationale the cult put out.
