I confess to associating Berkshire Hathaway with... Michael Bloomberg! I must've had NYC on my mind after I heard you lived in the NYC ashram. I got the primitive part, but I didn't pick-up on the good company and the juxtaposition between primitive and unlimited resources.

I was in the Boston ashram when Daya was born and transferred to Portland, ME as CC in the summer of 1979. I was subsequently transferred to the Manhattan ashram in 1980, so we likely have mutual acquaintences.

Interestingly, the Mahattan ashram lease expired and ashram premies were dispersed to live with community premies for most of that summer until an exquisite brownstone on the upper west side - West 89th just off Central Park - was leased. The intention was to establish a "super ashram" to impress the public with how "normal" we were, especially in preparation for Prem's upcoming public event tour.

I've posted about the social engineering behind it: only well-bred, sharp-dressed high-income socialites need apply. (Also because the rent was $4,000 a month in 1980.)

I didn't make the cut and got my sorry ass banished to Hartford, CT to be the CC.
