exactly as 13 said, I agree with that.  What Rawat had was the same as political leaders have, charisma from addressing the crowd.  It is powerful enough.

To my mind there is something particularly unhinged about being a guru or any sort of religious leader - we have these beautiful dreams inside, why mess with that!

But that's what he has a talent for and that's the training Rawat got - he'd accompany his father when he addressed the crowds and got to speak from the stage as well.  

There are a number of accounts that Rawat does not like to meditate himself.  And he doesn't look like he does yoga does he.
