I am going to attempt to sound intelligent after reading your post rgj, but sure to fall short. May I ask do you teach or write ? All great points anyway. I love it when someone (at least appears) to have a firm grasp on social/spiritual history or perhaps has benefited from a classical education. Reminds me of Huxley or another favorite Terrence McKenna. I'm sure I ate too many paint chips as a child, therefore I have only managed a clumsy pasting together of a satisfactory "syncretism" to explain 35 years lost to the Donny Osmond of Gurus. But I think this subject is pretty interesting. Rawat seldomly permitted fanciful or romanticized notions to be expressed among his followers, all being instantly relegated to the pejorative heap of "in-your-mindism". It wasn't until his own golden age of waxing poetic that he allowed a quasi-hindu sentiment to be associated with himself. Always quoting Kabir, Nanak and Tulsidas. I noticed with interest in watching Slumdog Millionaire when the Indian version of Regis Philbin would pose a question starting with "Tulsidas Says..." ALL of that crap is so deeply rooted in their culture. And we thought he actually studied those scriptures ??? aackkk ! I admit I have a hard time watching TED talks though. All that well-intentioned intellectual one-upmanship...just makes my skin crawl. I need to start a daily regimen of brain boosting or something. At the end of the day romanticism boils down to simple things for me as I age (somewhat gracefully). And that is appreciation of a piece of music or art, or the beauty of a Summer day at the beach with my kids. Funny I don't feel I missed the boat at all. By the way, I bought a copy of "Autobiography of a Yogi" recently just to brush up on my 20's. What a bunch of tripe. What the hell happened to Baba-Ji anyway? Is he lost in space floating about the cosmos over Tibet or what ?...jeezusss.. enough already. Modified by Manincar at Thu, Aug 18, 2016, 19:10:49 |
