Check this out and see that TPRF won the giving challenge yesterday and is leader today and wants to get enough donations to win the $50,000 for the organization. It's spreading thru facebook etc.

Is this genuine? I was actually quite impressed.

It's genuine. The only requirement to be in the contest is to be a 501 c 3. Who knows what percentage of donations actually go to the "feeding of the poor" as the donation is to the organization. TPRF supports a few charities but most of its money goes to maharaji's events to spread "peace." But this allows them to access a broader base of givers.

The money tprf raises amounts to what most charities (relative to Prem Pal's worth) raise in a few minutes.  This is just a propagation move.  Lots of premies donate $10, thus moving TPRF to the top for a brief moment in the spotlight.  It's like gaming the Amazon rating system.

Premies have never been devoted to feeding the world's poor.  Their devotion lies elsewhere.  I don't mean to disparage the truly nice premies who are donating hard-earned money to help the less fortunate.  Good for them.  We all need to help others in need.

It is a little sad to see this, though.  "Causes.com" doesn't ring a bell with any of the groups who monitor charities.  It's a passing Facebook propagation tool for a mixed bag of charities...anti-abortion, pro-Rawat, etc.

Looks like only the Tibetan Freedom Movement, and the 'Make Abortion UNTHINKABLE' causes can stop TPRF getting one of the $10,000 prizes awarded on Nov 6th. I doubt the supporters of these movements are as organised as premies, but one can hope (not that I support the anti-abortion cause!).

No decent philanthropic organisation would get into 'cause competition'. The countering of one set of basic human needs against another in a competion where the winners are the richest group of supporters, plainly undermines the whole notion of philanthropic effort. If premies are proud of this then they are sick beyond all measure.

these links show how manipulative the whole process is:

With the momentum premies have generated, they have a good chance of getting the $25,000 prize on Nov 6th, as well as every daily $1000 prize up to then.
